IDX2 Traffic Record Broken Through EDI Success

According to IDX2 statistics, IDEA’s IDX2 traffic surpassed 5.5 million kilocharacters in March, setting a new record and demonstrating the value of electronic data interchange (EDI) in the electrical industry and other vertical channels. This record exceeded the previous milestone set in August 2006 of 5 million kilocharacters. Tom Guzik, the IDX2 Product Manager, believes the steady growth of IDX2 traffic is due to the success of the initiative to increase the use of Special Price Authorization (SPA) documents to automate the exchange of business data. “Many companies are recognizing the advantages of conducting business transactions electronically, and are increasing these transactions to improve speed and accuracy,” said Guzik.

IDEA is excited to announce this success and looks forward to continue helping trading partners increase productivity through EDI transactions.

Please contact Tom Guzik at (703)562- 4626 or visit the IDX2 Page for more information.

Attention Distributors: Net Price into Stock Requests Due by April 9th

Many distributors utilizing the Industry Data Warehouse (IDW2) are making their demands heard by requesting their manufacturers provide Net Price into Stock data via the IDW2.

The Net Price into Stock feature enables manufacturers to populate all their net price sheets in one location guaranteeing that only authorized distributor locations will receive the Net Price data. IDEA will send communications to the manufacturers in which distributors requested this information in writing. Manufacturers will specifically receive the name of the company requesting the information, the title of the individual on the request and their signature. GS1 System: More than a Number-More than a Bar Code. An Entire System

With more than one million companies doing business in more than 145 countries worldwide, the GS1 System enables one global language of business.

The GS1 System is a suite of standards that makes a company’s supply chain more efficient and responsive to customers in any industry. The standards enable a company to efficiently share business information with trading partners and to improve internal business processes; driving cost savings and increased productivity for businesses.

The GS1 System includes:

• Identification numbers, which are globally unique numbers and supplementary data elements. The identification numbers identify products, service locations, logistics units, assets and service relationships. More than 90 supplementary data elements are standardized including lot numbers, serial numbers, and best-before-dates.

• Data Carriers, which are GS1 approved bar code symbols and Electronic Product Code (EPC) compliant RFID tags. Data carriers are machine readable, which provides a fast and accurate method of entering identification numbers and data elements into computer systems.

• Electronic commerce transactions, which enable trading partners to communicate business information in a standardized format using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) or Business Message Standards using Extensible Markup Language (XML)
